2 WEEKS TO GO – TO MAKE THEM LISTEN

The GOOD NEWS is that in 2 weeks we won’t be sending you any more emails about collecting signatures for the petition on the anti-smacking legislation. Yay!!!!

The NOT SO GOOD NEWS is that the deadline to collect the remaining number of signatures to absolutely ensure that the Referendum happens is in 2 weeks .

Our target is 370,000 signatures to ensure that there are more than enough signatures to survive however tough the ‘audit process’ is. ( just over 12,000 to collect )

And remember – 390,000 would match the number in the film Amazing Grace where William Wilberforce rolled out the petition in the House of Commons and shouted, “No matter how loud you shout you will not drown out the voice of the people!”

Could I encourage you to simply
1. print out the petition form CLICK HERE
2. carry with you over the weekend and next week
3. and simply check with people you socialise with whether they would like to sign the petition. You’ll be surprised how many people have wanted to but simply didn’t have the opportunity!

*It has been a conscious effort on the part of Unity for Liberty not to
send out *too many e-mails* over the last few months. But now that we
are at the business end, all is becoming serious.

I would like to thank those who have placed their hand to the plow, it
has been through these efforts on your part that have put us on a
pathway to keep our politicians honest and restoring common sense to
this country.

The new goal.

At least 370,000

The final plan.
We have until the end of June before the final deadline to resubmit the
petition with all the additional signatures.
However I am a little concerned that since they take 2 months to
complete the audit, and then there is another month allowance under the
Act before the Governor General sets a date I do not want to find that
the PM has set the election date and dissolved parliament before the
date for the referendum is set to coincide with polling day.

We know that the election won’t be before October 1st as that is when
all the lollies are given out from the budget .However parliament can be
dissolved 5 weeks before polling day.
This means Parliament could rise for the elections anytime from about
the end of Aug.
My own view, along with many others is that the elections will not be
until November 15th.
However it would be wise to get our signatures collected and in as soon
as possible.

If we have a good weekend over Queens’s birthday, our total could be
well over 360,000 by the first week of June. With a concerted effort
then for the two weeks of June we could reach our new target of 370,000
by about June 14th and be ready to hand them in.

I have had discussion with Craig Hill from Unity4Liberty about a final
effort in Auckland the weekend of June 7 & 8 through to June 14th. It
will be tables on footpaths in normal shopping areas, (not malls) for a
few hours everyday over lunchtimes.
Can I please hear from anyone who could volunteer some time for this in
Auckland or Hamilton to include efforts at Mystery Creek if we can get in.

I am calling on you all to make contact with people that you may know to
help collect signatures this week during the Gold Guitars in Gore. This
is a big event and some help would be super. There will be busking
Thursday, Friday and Saturday so I do need to plan with H&J Smith’s.
All that is required is a warm coat,gloves, hat and a smile. Come along
to The Gold Guitar events at the same time. Gore is the place to be this
Queens Birthday weekend. My prayers will be with you and your team this
weekend Andy.

Thanks so much for the feedback…more on this one than virtually any other.

I found that I have probably made a serious blunder.

I did not write the comments about Helen Clark below. They arrived in my inbox and I forwarded them. Turns out I cannot ascertain who actually wrote the comments. ( Comments came from:

This has caused people to question my credibility, the supposed (but erroneous) assumption that I wrote these words. While I did not write them, I do agree with them; let me make that perfectly clear. Listen to her say the very words at:

In fact, let me just repeat what to me was the most outrageous thing she ever said: March 4, 2003, page one of Dominion Post: When asked if it was the role of the government to fund a rich man’s boat race (she’d just offered to kick start NZ’s next America’s Cup challenge with $5.6million from our tax money), she replied that the role of the government was whatever the government determined that role to be.

If these words do not chill your blood in your veins, you are simply not alive.

Whether by accident or design, Helen Calrk told us this morning on Breakfast what she thinks of us, and especially our children. She told Paul Henry:

“I don’t have children, but other people do thank God, and they will look after me when I retire“

That must rate as one of the most outrageous things that our PM has ever said, so pass it on. She is a multi-millionaire, has a gold-plated superannuation scheme, and will probably leave Parliament and New Zealand to a high-paying job elsewhere. And yet she expects “other people’s” children to support her in her retirement! I have not raised my children to support Helen Clark or her ilk. I am trying to ensure that my kids will not even have to support Mrs Inventory and me. Yet Helen Clark, a socialist until the bitter end, has a different mentality. Which explains a lot, doesn’t it!

Hi Everyone,Once again we awaken to the news of another family affected by the Anti-Smacking law. I have attached my press release for your information.They said no good parents would be prosecuted!
Now I expect they will say, we actually meant no good parents would be sent to prison.

Trust me; they will never admit they were wrong! That is why you and I must do something about it.

Yes I know many of you are tired of this whole thing, we are as well, and we wish it was already all over and we could get on with our lives again.

If you saw the William Wilberforce movie ‘Amazing Grace’ you will remember the length of their struggle. Barbara and I have been showing the film to various groups this week so its message is again fresh in our minds.
I was informed by the Clerks this week that the final result of the audit process of Sheryl’s petition will probably be given in the last week of this month.

So we must keep on collecting to ensure we will have enough for her petition and to achieve the required number on mine. Currently we are approaching the 280,000 mark for the second petition. That means we will have enough (285,000) to hand them in again on May 14th.
The question will be, will we have enough to survive the audit process?
There will be no further extension of time beyond May 14th for my Petition.

One major event we want to target is next weekend April 19-21 with the V8 Super Cars in Hamilton.
We would love to have your company. We have permission to set up tables around the perimeter and with an expected crowd of 150,000 there will be plenty willing to sign. I am hoping for 10 tables to be manned.

Please let me know if you can join us to help in Hamilton.

Urgent, John from out West Auckland needs assistance at the Kumeu A&P Show on Saturday/Sunday. If anyone can help please contact John on 0274717099.

A word of caution, recently there seems to be two popular responses from both people in authority and the media,and guaranteed they are going to be repeated time and time again. They are “We have moved on” and “Nothing is going through the courts so the law must be working”. From my experience mainstream New Zealand know their minds and won’t be fooled, this propaganda will impact our politicians more than any one else. It is then very important not to lose sight of the need keep pressure on our politicians.

U4L’s Three point plan
Firstly, we need to gather as many signatures as possible, every signature counts. Secondly, be alert to every opportunity to lobby/remind your local MP.Thirdly, take confidence that main stream New Zealand wants to change this crazy law.

Here’s encouraging feedback from the Hawkes Bay team from last weekend.

We had a team collecting at the Mission Concert in Napier yesterday.

We collected 2,800 signatures!

I think the recent publicity about the petition has made people more determined, also people here are anti-government anyway after the sacking of the local Health Board.

Keep up the good work, it an’t over until the fat lady sings.

Hi everyone,

Attached is a draft of two docs in relationship to my petition (these are below).

We have several thousand less signatures on this one and so need to find ways to catch up with it if it is to force a referendum also.

Gordon will be sending these out to the Catholic and Anglican Bishops. I will talk with the Salvation Army and Presbyterians. Glyn has agreed to send it through Vision Network in the hope that some churches that did not do much with the first petition because it was controversial where they had pro and anti smackers in their churches, might now get behind this one. There are still at least 100,000 Christians who attend church every week that have not signed either petition. At least 100,000 considering the huge numbers of non Christians we meet at events all over the country,

Could you pleas have a quick look at this and let me know if you have any suggestions of changes or additions.

I will put out an update today which will confirm we have 295,000 of Sheryl’s signatures.

I talked with Norm Withers yesterday and he advised that he lost 60,000 signatures from the audit process after he handed his in,

So we will need more

We must have 286,000 authentic confirmed signatures to force the referendum as I mentions in the ‘the process doc’ I sent out with update 20.
